Hough High announces coaches

Principal Terri Cockerham of Hough High School, which will open this fall in Huntersville, announced several of the coaches who will be leading the Huskies in their first year.

Two successful North Mecklenburg coaches, Tim Queen (swimming) and Sandi Skidmore (volleyball), will move to the new school. Also, Hopewell assistant basketball coach Justin Batts will be the Huskies' first basketball coach.

From Prep Insiders:

Former Providence Day assistant coach Bobby Collins will be the first football coach at Hough High, a new school opening this fall in northern Mecklenburg County. Hopewell assistant Justin Batts will be the school’s first boys basketball coach.

Hough principal Terri Cockerham announced the majority of the school’s coaching hires Monday. She continues to interview for other positions.

“I was very impressed with the quality of the candidates,” said Cockerham, who was principal at Providence from July 2005-June 2009. “The chemistry seemed good. They’re all good coaches and good teachers and have good ideas about building a new program. I’m very pleased with those who decided to join us and I look at them as teachers and coaches, and they know that.”

Other new coaches at Hough: Tim Queen, swimming (Queen comes from North Meck); Sandi Skidmore, volleyball (Skidmore comes from North Meck); David Smith, soccer (Smith comes from Vance); Sonja Tate, girls basketball (Tate comes from Ardrey Kell), Jimmy Cochran, baseball (currently Monroe Parkwood coach); Tripp Rogers, wrestling (former state champ at East Gaston and current assistant at Belmont Abbey).
