Mooresville wrestles their way to 4A Western Regional lead

The Mooresville wrestling team has a one point lead over archrival Lake Norman going into the second and final day of the 4A Western Regional meet at Bojangles Arena.

The Blue Devils and Wildcats are 15 points ahead of the rest of the field as Alexander Central, T.C. Roberson and Olympic round out the top five.

The Blue Devils boast seven wrestlers in the individual semifinals to start the day including Matt Krider (112-lb.), Justin Yox (119-lb.), Hunter Hefner (130-lb.), Santonio Thompson (135-lb.), Dalton Pierce (145-lb.), Tyler Bruton (160-lb.), Zach Brown (215-lb.).

Thompson and Pierce are the No. 1 seeds in their weight classes.

The Wildcats have eight wrestlers in the semifinals, including Cody Karns (103-lb.), Ryan Renfroe (119-lb.), Nick Rodrigues (130-lb.), Mike Hayes (145-lb.), Josh Smith (152-lb.), Mike Rubino (160-lb.), Collin Foster (189-lb.) and Harrison Honeycutt (215-lb.).

Smith and Honeycutt are No. 1 seeds in their weight class. Honeycutt is a perfect 42-0 this season.

Hopewell's Joseph Acquarulo is also the No. 1 seed at the 119-lb. weight class and the only Titan in the semifinals. North Meck's Joe DiDonato advanced to the semifinals for the Vikings.
