YMCA to host iHoops Skills Challenge

The Lowe’s YMCA in Mooresville is giving local youngsters ages 9 to 14 the opportunity to participate in the inaugural iHoops Skills Challenge.

This national basketball skills competition provides boys and girls a free opportunity to showcase their basketball abilities in a time-based, half-court obstacle course. The iHoops Skills Challenge focuses on basketball skill development while encouraging participation in the game.

The Lowe's YMCA will host the skills challenge on Saturday, Feb. 20, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The branch is located at 170 Joe V. Knox Ave., Mooresville, N.C.

“We are excited to offer local youth the opportunity to showcase their basketball skills and get active,” said sports director Doug Parker. “The Lowe’s YMCA is the only location in Greater Charlotte hosting a local competition, so we are looking forward to serving children from across the area.”

Participants may register the day of the event and must bring a copy of their birth certificate and complete a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition. A copy of the registration/waiver form is available online at www.iHoops.com/skillschallenge or at the Lowe’s YMCA.

First-place champions from the Lowe’s YMCA local competition will have the opportunity to advance to the Charlotte Bobcats Regional Competition, one of twenty-nine Regional Competitions occurring in NBA team markets across the country, in hopes of advancing to the National Finals in Orlando, Florida.
