North Meck names new coaches

North Mecklenburg High School has appointed two new coaches to its staff, athletic director Kevin Wilson announced Tuesday.

Gary Workman, a longtime Central Cabarrus wrestling coach, will take over the Vikings' wrestling program effective immediately. He will have close to 25 returning wrestlers, including nine seniors, back to the program. Workman takes over for Sean Finkbeiner, who resigned in July to take a job at Raleigh's Athens Drive High.

Sean Ryan will begin fall baseball workouts as he takes over the North Meck baseball program. Ryan received a full scholarship to play baseball at Rutgers and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies. Ryan replaces Andy Carter.
