Allen shines to lead Hough to 2nd title

Sophomore Emily Allen set four North Carolina records on her way to leading Hough's girls to a second straight 4A swimming title.

Allen won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle titles and helped the 200- and 400-free relays also claim championships. Jessica Merritt (200 free) also won an individual state title for the Huskies.

On the boys' side, Jack Manchester won the 100 backstroke and 200 free state titles while also helping the 200-free relay finish second behind Green Hope, which finished 69 points ahead of second-place Hough to claim the 4A boys' title.

Lake Norman, behind freshman Brody Heck's fourth-place finish in the 100 free, finished 10th on the boys' side. The Lady Wildcats were 19th.
