Wills breaks N.C. single-season goals record
A senior committed to Appalachian State, Wills scored five goals in a 12-0 win against Burlington Christian Academy in the N.C. Independent Schools 1A state quarterfinals. That gave Wills 77 goals for the season and broke the N.C. state record of 76. This season, Wills leads the nation in scoring.
Wills and Davidson Day play against Community Christian School in the state semifinals in Wilson Friday at 2 p.m. Davidson Day is 17-5-1.

Baseball playoff brackets set
The NCHSAA announced its high school baseball playoff brackets today.
Five I-Meck Conference teams made it to the 4A playoffs - Lake Norman, Mallard Creek, Hopewell, Mooresville and North Mecklenburg. The Wildcats (19-7) are the conference's top seed.
On the 2A bracket, East Lincoln earned a No. 2 seed after a 19-6 regular season.
Playoff play begins Friday.

Titans advances to state quarterfinals
The Hopewell boys' tennis team (18-3) defeated Greensboro Grimsley 5-1 Tuesday to reach the regional semifinal round of the 4A dual playoffs. This is the farthest a Titan team has ever advanced in the dual state playoffs. Hopewell will host Ardrey Kell May 17.

Knights finish fourth at 1A golf championship
Lake Norman Charter shot a 36-hole team score of 674 to finish in fourth place at the 1A boys' golf state tournament, which wrapped up Tuesday. The Knights narrowly missed third place by five strokes. Lake Norman Charter finished 76 shots behind 1A state champion Kernersville Bishop McGuinness.
The Knights were led by junior captain Sean Murphy, who had a two-day score of 158. Murphy shot a four-over-par 76 Tuesday and claimed 13th place individually. Lake Norman Charter sophomore Ben Cattoni shot a 169 for the tournament to finish 27th.

Sargent finishes 23rd at states
Hough's David Sargent shot a two-day score of 149 at the 4A boys' golf state championship. The junior shot a 73 Tuesday, improving by three strokes from his previous day's score. Sargent was the only Lake Norman-area golfer to make states at the 4A level.
Lake Norman Charter claims PAC baseball title
The Knights (15-6) defeated Queen's Grant Tuesday night 3-2, which secured Lake Norman Charter the Piedmont Athletic 1A Conference championship. The Knights' Justin Moore was the winning pitcher, while teammates Zech Wiggs (1-3, RBI), Sean Kane (1-3, RBI), James Creel (2-3) and Michael Dorsainvil (1-2, RBI) also made key contributions.

Knights head to state 1A boys' golf championship
After wrapping up a 11-1 regular season campaign, the Lake Norman Charter boys' golf team earned a trip to the 1A state championship Tuesday.
At the 1A West Regional, which was held at Hendersonville Country Club, the Knights shot a 324 to tie host school Hendersonville High for first place. Lake Norman Charter lost the tie breaker - comparing the each team's fifth golfers' scores - and was awarded the West Region 1A runner-up trophy for a second consecutive year.
The Knights' Ben Catonni's 78 led the team, while Jake Blum (80) and Sean Murphy (81) also helped the team. Ross Goldbrum (85) and Gib Baker (86) also scored for their Lake Norman Charter team.
The Huntersville team will travel to the state championships for a second consecutive seson. Last year, the Knights finished fifth. The tournament will be held May 9-10 at the Keith Hills Golf Course at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C.

Husky junior qualifies to state golf championship
Hough's David Sargent (right) was the lone area qualifier to next week's boys' golf 4A state championship. The junior hit a 3-over-par 74 at Monday's 4A West Regional.
